Where the Cards in This Deck Actually Come From

1909, one artist, one deck that became the standard.

The deck used across Astermave is the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, first published in 1909 — illustrated by Pamela Colman Smith, commissioned by A.E. Waite. It's the deck most people picture when they picture "tarot" at all, because so many decks made after it borrowed its imagery directly.

It's a specific, documented set of choices by two specific people, not an ancient or universal artifact — worth knowing, since it makes the cards easier to take seriously as a symbolic system instead of a mystery with no author.
