Position does half the work a card does.
Pull The Tower in the Situation position of a spread and it's describing where you already stand — something's already shaken loose. Pull the same card in Outcome, and it's describing where things are headed instead.
The card supplies the theme. The position supplies the tense — past, present, or where this is going. Reading a card without its position is reading half the sentence.
